I like what I like

Dear food establishment workers,
If a customer orders food a particular way, don't comment on it. I'm guessing they wouldn't order it that way if they didn't want it THAT way. However, on the flip side, if someone orders a Cranberry Walnut salad with no cranberries and no walnuts, then that is something completely different - because they aren't really ordering the Cranberry Walnut salad. Those people are silly and those people deserve to be thought of as such.

***a little background might help***

For lunch today I was able to escape the confines of my cubicle and eat out at delicious Plates & Palates in Bountiful with a few of my wonderfully witty and intelligent coworkers. As I was placing my order (a half ham & swiss sandwich with a half chef's salad, no ham) the person at the counter looked at me like I just escaped from a mental facility.

Order taker guy - "You want what?" he asked.
Me - "A half ham and swiss with a half chef's salad, but with no ham on the salad," was my reply. I did order in English I thought to myself...right?
Order taker guy - "But you ordered a ham & swiss..." he so graciously reminded me.
Me - "Yup and a chef's salad with no ham." He looks at me, shakes his head and goes "Okaayyy."

First question - was my order really an odd request?
Second question - can't a person enjoy a type of food prepared one way (sandwiched between two slices of sourdough bread with melted cheese) and at the same time not enjoy the same type of food when prepared a different way (cold cut up in cubes in a salad)? I think so. Think about it. What foods do you like prepared one way but not another way...

I don't think it was that weird of a request. I don't want to go overboard on the ham, and there is nothing wrong with asking for no ham on the salad. Maybe he thought at first that you didn't want ham on both the sandwich and the salad?? Unfortunately there is no accounting for the stupidity of some people.

Not a strange request. If you had ham on both, that would have been ham overload. Additionally, cold cubed ham is sicko.

Next time, you should go in and order a "cheeseburger with ketchup - hold the tomatoes" or a "turkey sandwich - no lettuce - with a side garden salad" just to see how he would react. :0)
